Author Visits

That spark! It’s the magic that happens when students become excited about reading, writing, and their own unique creativity. Whether I’m working with kindergartners or college students, witnessing that process is one of my most favorite ways to spend a day.

Each of my author visits is tailored to the specific school or organization. Past activities have included readings; discussions of my background as a writer; information about the difference between fiction and non-fiction; the roles of the author, illustrator, and publisher in picture book creation; and interactive activities in which students brainstorm ideas for their own stories or poems. Because I recently completed courses in a program called Creative Teaching through Drama at The Catholic University of America, future visits might also include character interviews, dramatic tableaux, and human slide shows to help students interact with stories and make inferences about the text.

I’d love to talk more with you about a visit. Please reach out via my Contact page if you’d like to connect.
